Carnuntum

Today we went to Carnuntum, which is a Roman archeological site. There is one big triumphal arch there. Here it is. But they also have some very interesting excavation sites.

They reconstructed a series of Roman houses.

This is what the reconstructed complex looked like.

This was where all the shops were.

We´re going in.

This is the shop.

These are amphoras.

This is a mill stone.

We had a sip.

This is the oven where the Romans made bricks.

This is how the walls were made.

This is a nice sitting room.

These were the toilets. This is where the expression "doing business" came from. They actually did!
The buckets were filled with vinegar and sticks with sponges. No paper....

These were the public baths. People could hang out there.

This was one of the baths.
It was really hot in there. They had their floor furnace on.

This is how the floor heating system worked.

We went to the ampitheater.

We happened to drive by Piriwe´s.
They opened up yesterday for two weeks.

Did somebody mention Tichy?

I guess....
